Understanding the NDIS

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding to eligible people with disability to access supports that help build independence, wellbeing, and participation in everyday life.

The NDIS is built around choice and control, meaning you decide your goals, the supports you receive, and who provides them.

If you’re new to the NDIS or feeling unsure, you’re not alone. Our team is here to help explain things clearly and support you every step of the way.

How the NDIS Works

If you are approved for the NDIS, you will receive an individual NDIS plan. Your plan outlines:

  • Your personal goals

  • The supports you can access

  • How your funding is managed

Your supports should be tailored to your needs and delivered in a way that feels respectful, flexible, and aligned with what matters most to you.

Types of NDIS Funding We Support

Unity Ability Support works with participants who are:

Self-Managed
You manage your funding and pay providers directly.

Plan-Managed
A plan manager helps manage invoices and budgets on your behalf.

NDIA-Managed
The NDIA pays providers directly. Participants must use NDIS registered providers.

Unity Ability Support is an NDIS registered provider, meaning we can support participants under all funding types.

What Supports Can Be Funded?

NDIS funding may be used for supports that are considered reasonable and necessary and aligned with your goals.

These may include:

  • Assistance with daily living

  • Community access and participation

  • Capacity building supports

  • Mental health and psychosocial supports

  • Complex and high needs support

The supports available to you depend on your individual plan.
